Members

Membership Process

Membership in CASP or CASP Inc. is limited to Canadian agriculture and agro-industry organizations in the private, institutional, and government sectors, with public sector members having an ex officio capacity. Members must have experience, credibility, and commitment in international sustainable agricultural activities.

Potential new members are requested to submit a profile of agro-industry interests, experience, and capabilities (download the form here). Applications are submitted to CASP and are normally reviewed at a monthly Executive Meeting of the CASP Board of Directors, with the application process taking approximately 45 days from initial inquiry to decision. Members pay an annual membership fee, agree to abide by CASP's By-Laws, and pay an administration fee on the value of contracts awarded to the member, not including flow through costs such as travel/freight.

    Ronald L. Doering is an internationally recognized expert in food safety and food law. He had the lead responsibility for carrying out the analysis that led to the creation of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and was its President for five years. Since retiring from government, Dr. Doering practices with the Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs Group of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, one of Canada's largest and most respected law firms (including its consulting arm, Gowlings Consulting Inc.). Dr. Doering acts for many large and medium-sized food companies. He has completed many consulting contracts dealing with a wide range of food issues, including: analyzing the relationship between food regulation and competitiveness, establishing food safety systems, and various reviews relating to international trade implications of food safety. Dr. Doering taught food law at the University of Guelph, particularly for developing country food safety officials. Dr. Doering is an adjunct professor at the Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph, where he is also a member of the Dean's International Advisory Committee. He is the author of many papers on food law and of the food safety Chapter in the new book on Public Health Law in Canada.

    IBI is a non-profit corporation specializing in capacity enhancement of bio-food industry stakeholders with a focus on developing countries.
